and on the way back home I must have got lost now I haven't seen familiar stars in a while and on the way back home I must have got lost and now I can't remember your smile oh, but I still see these pictures of me and the life I was supposed to lead a nice home in the country with gardens and evergreens and oh look is that you there beside me but on the way back home I must have got lost now I haven't seen familiar stars in a while and on the way back home I must have got lost and now I can't remember your smile and goddamn these lights from the city they blind me, they bind me here and right from the start this wandering heart guided these careless hands oh on the way back home I must have got lost now I haven't seen familiar stars for a while and on the way back home I must have got lost and now I can't remember your smile

chapped lips grey hair our homespun youth has finally run its course this is just our first christmas eve alone electric candles in the neighbours' windows tv specials to remind us that we come from monsters on our first christmas eve away from home while we might jockey a nag called wild turkey this is not a race to the bottom this is our first christmas eve away from home things might look bleak and we might feel empty a bedroom finale in your chinatown lingerie this is just our first christmas eve alone

oil-soaked rags dress the way I like you to dress makes me feel like a monster but I'm the only monster you've got left a family history of mental illness I should've taken the ransom they offered me in place of these paltry affairs somewhere just inside the territories there's a tiger waiting to devour me a reckoning for all the monstrous things I've done to the woman I loved a family history of mental illness I should've taken the ransom they offered me in place of these paltry affairs

about

The impetus for this EP was a commission from the Juicebox Recording Company for their 2009 Christmas compilation. "A Very Glenhurst Christmas Eve" was the result, with the remaining two tracks being remixes of demos for Alex's other band, The Dead Elm Society of Canada.

For this EP, Burnt Norton was Alex Unger programming drum machines and singing in Lakefield, Ontario, November 2009.
