And in the last few seconds before a car crash claims your life you won't remember anything at all; will you remember anyone you've loved? And in the final minutes before the dance floor falls below, you'll dance pretty. I made a new virus, just like a brand new drug. You know I didn't want to, they put a gun to my head said "it's you or them" so of course I picked them instead. I hope they understand. And I made a new virus, just like a brand new drug. You know I didn't want to, but now it's out of my hands, lord, it's out of my hands. There's nothing that I can do, I hope they understand. And we are not post-war. One thing you've got to keep in mind: these men that we've hired to stand behind, these men aren't afraid to die. And in the last few moments, as the second hand sweeps around, we'll dance pretty. And I made a new virus, just like a brand new drug. You know I didn't want to, but now it's out of my hands, lord, it's out of my hands. There's nothing that I can do, I hope you understand. And I made a new virus, just like a brand new drug. You know I didn't want to, they put a gun to my head said "it's you or them" so of course I picked them instead, I hope they understand.

I was there in the bedroom, helping you take off your clothes. You flickered a smile, batted your eyes, I've never seen anything so beautiful. A lightning glimpse of flesh, a place I barely knew, all these awful things I do, when I am alone with you. Every mistake I ever made held together in your swimmer's frame. Ms. Simon said it, "Baby you're the best," held together in a summer dress. A lightning glimpse of flesh, a place I never knew, these awful things I do alone with you. A two-lane blacktop in New Mexico, a diner full of faces that I will never know.

Oh, sweet Jesus, don't say it ends this way. He turned to me and sadly said, "Everything ends someday." I can't forget I've been negligent with delicate things. Oh sweet Jesus, don't say it's really the end, the things I've done to my only friend. I sold my soul just like I said I would, all that's left now is to hope she understood. I can't forget I've been negligent with delicate things.

I raised these lies from when they were very small, helped them grow, fed them with a casual grin. Now their all grown up, and making their own way in the world, navigating their own relationships, learning the true meaning of sin. And now I'm so proud I can barely raise my head, I can barely meet their eyes when I'm cheering on the sidelines. And I dreamed this day would come, I would cast my lies aside, and stand true committing my infanticide. And the damage that they've done, little bombs that still haunt me; they must be put to rest for my own misery. And now I'm so proud I can hardly raise my head, I can barely meet their eyes when I'm cheering on the sidelines. And I dreamed this day would come, I could cast my lies aside, and stand true committing my infanticide.

Fireworks 05:22
We lied awake in bed listening to the echoes of fireworks across the lake. You leaned in close and asked me, "Do you think this is what war sounds like?" A small doubt, never a question. And I believe in you. And I think there are times you still do believe in me, too. And in your pale hand an old watch key was held tight; to serve as anchor and vine to all of your dreams. All your old fears seem so near, every doubt you never let out.

And with nothing more than alcohol and a straight razor blade I have seen the dark tonight and the sparks it's made.

Well bring me men and I'll show you fear. Look in their eyes, the eyes of a mutineer. And bring me arms and ropes to hang. We'll set the lamp posts swinging no matter what song we caught them singing. And if you run away I'll kill you, pull the floor out myself. I never said I'd fight a civil war. Bring me gold and I'll show you lead. A hunger here that won't won't stop no matter how much it's fed. But if you run away it's over, I'll pull the floor out myself. I never said I'd fight a civil war. And if you're looking for home let me tell you, I think you've lost your way. Out of the ashes you'll rise. And if you run away I'll kill you, pull the floor out myself. I never said I'd fight a civil war.

My how you've grown, so big and so strong since we last laid eyes on you. I guess we were wrong. And if we had our way you'd never leave our side. Less a trap than a safe place to hide. Less a home than a feeling. And these times they are cold, we find it so hard; thoughts turn to summers spent in our back yard. These things they keep us afloat through our dark, dark times. And if we had our way you'd never leave our side. Less a trap than a safe place to hide. Less a home than a feeling.

I never knew your name before tonight. I never had a reason why. Now it's the only thing I know, this ghostly glow that lights the paths that were too dark to walk before. You are a ghost. You are are a hope. You are a solution to a problem I never knew I had. Never knew my face before tonight, I never had to face my why. Now you're the only thing I know, your ghostly glow that lights the paths that were too dark to walk before. You are a ghost. You are are a hope. You are a solution to a problem I never knew I had before.

I waited for you at the window. I waited for you in my bed. I waited for you at the light of a long day's end. But now I don't wait anymore.
